YOGIC EXERCISES TO STRENGTHEN EYES
It is well recognized that the muscles of the body should be exercised to remain healthy. Otherwise they become saturated with wastes and toxins. Why should it be any different with the eyes? They are surrounded by muscles that should be exercised. If they are not, stagnation and toxins congest them just as with other muscles; and the debris flows into and through the eyes, finally resulting in deterioration.
To maintain healthy eyes, they must be exposed to light. They must be fed with certain enzymes from the proper foods, and they must be exercised and stimulated. These things are also required to regain healthy eyes. The eyes can recover perfect health just as other parts of the body can. Why should the eye be different, unless some degenerative disease is present? However, the eye itself is rarely the original seat of a degenerative disease; it is usually a victim.
As long as eye muscles are kept resilient, relaxed, and balanced, as long as the diet contains natural foods, as long as the eye is occasionally stimulated through inflowing light rays, the function of seeing—which is the true purpose of the eye—should remain unimpaired. Neglect of any of the above results in eye strain, tension, poor circulation, defective lens, pressure, toxic buildup.
At one time it was believed that once the shape of the eye was altered, resulting in nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, such a refractive error became permanent. But both the Bates System of correction and the yogic techniques taught and practiced by renowned yogis have proved such a belief to be false. Both systems explain that the damage results from unequal tension of the six muscles that attach to the outer tissues of the eyeball.
Throughout the previous section, I have written with dedication about the Bates method of eyesight improvement. But I am also a yogi and have practiced yoga for many years, including methods for improving the eyesight. I shall present yogic techniques for eye improvement, and then you may decide your personal preference.
